Yoga is considered to be a generic term for the mental, physical, and spiritual disciplines that have originated in ancient India. It is considered to be one of the six orthodox schools of the Hindu philosophy. Some of the traditions from yoga have been found within Jainism, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Buddhism. Despite how many practices of yoga are directly related to spiritual aspects, many people use it as a form of physical fitness and to help them stay active. Individuals who are seeking light forms of exercise may find that options such as yoga are an ideal way for them to gain muscle tone and stretch their muscles as needed. It can be used as a supplement to regular exercise or can be used as a general physical activity routine. Despite the light activity, most doctors will recommend that yoga should be done under the guidance of an experienced individual. Individuals who are seeking to learn more about yoga or gain more insight into improving their routine or skills are recommended to consider participating in a yoga class or joining a group with a personal trainer. This is mainly to help prevent any possible risk of injury from pushing the muscles too far or trying to accomplish advanced moves before the individual has attained the necessary skill level. There are many different reasons why someone may take an interest in yoga. For some people, it is a form of meditation and helps them to relax in their spare time. There are many elderly individuals who use yoga because it allows them to focus on improving their muscle tone without requiring a large amount of physical exertion. It has been proven to have a high amount of physical benefit to those who practice yoga on a regular basis. As a result, it has gained a large amount of popularity within the Western culture, although most people do not practice it for the spiritual aspects that it previously held during other periods and eras outside of the Western world. Some studies have shown that practicing yoga has reduced the symptoms of asthmas in individuals has helped to improve the mood levels. Likewise, those who participate in it on a regular basis have an increase of GABA levels within the brain and are less likely to deal with anxiety. Other studies have revealed that yoga participants have had at least a 80% drop in the use of pain medication. Ultimately, individuals have to consider whether or not yoga may be an ideal practice to incorporate into their daily or weekly routine.
