These include a feeling of sadness, anxiousness and an empty feeling for a long period of time, too much or too little sleep, decreased or increased appetite, mood swings, a lack of interest in things you used to enjoy, feeling an increase in irritability and restlessness, having a hard time concentrating, focusing or remembering things, an increase in physical symptoms that won’t seem to go away, lack of energy and being tired all the time and even thoughts of suicide. These symptoms are severe and need to be treated right away. If you have one or more of these symptoms, seek treatment right away.
Causes of Depression
There are many things that can cause depression symptoms and the mental illness aspect of it. You can get depression from inheriting it from a family member. If someone in your family has a history of depression, you are more susceptible to it. Those who have low self esteem are more susceptible to it. A well known fact is that women experience depression more often and longer than men do. Also, if you are on certain types of prescribed medications you can end up with depression. Stresses can also cause depression such as traumatic events in your life.

There are a couple of ways to treat depression. One way is to see a therapist and a psychiatrist to get the help you need. They can treat your depression by prescribing medications and helping you learn new ways to cope with your depression.
