Symptoms of Back Pain
When you experience back pain you may experience many different types of symptoms. These include muscle ache, stabbing or shooting pain, a- burning sensation in your upper back, pain that goes down through your legs, an inability to stand up straight and a reduced range of motion in the back. Knowing these symptoms can help you get the treatment you need and get back on track with your daily life without pain. Most back pain will reduce within 72 hours of caring for it yourself. However, there are times when you have it so severe that you will need to see a doctor to get treated. The signs to watch out for to know when to seek medical treatment include bowl and bladder problems, fever or abdomen pain and if you have fallen or had another type of injury. If the pain persists you should also see a doctor.
Causes of Back Pain
Although most back pain often comes on by itself without a cause, there are some things that can cause it and even worsen it. These include ligament or muscle strain, ruptures or bulging disks, skeletal abnormalities, arthritis and even osteoporosis. Knowing the cause of your back pain will help your doctor be able to treat it the correct way.
Treatment for Back Pain
Knowing the symptoms and causes will enable you to get treated better. Treatments can include pain shots, pain medications and even physical therapy.
After tests and a diagnosis, your doctor will either recommend some mild pain reliever like Tylenol, NSAID’s like Ibuprofen or he might even prescribe a stronger pain medication for you. This usually includes Codeine or Hydrocodone. Be careful with these stronger pain medications because they can get addictive. Your doctor might even prescribe an anti-depressant because some have been found to treat chronic back pain. He could also recommend pain shots that might help more depending on how severe the pain is.
Your doctor might also recommend seeing a physical therapist to help relieve the back pain. The physical therapist will teach you certain exercises to do and even use cold or hot therapy on your back to relieve the pain. Make sure to keep doing the exercises even after physical therapy is over because continued use can really help with your back pain in the long run.
