Health Encouraging Foods For the Winter

A lot of the reason why people become sick during the winter is because they are eating the incorrect foods. During the winter season and the holidays, there is less of a focus on eating healthy food. This is a time when many people tend to focus on eating food that is more satisfactory and indulgent than healthy. However, if you want to ensure that you’re healthy throughout the winter season, you need to adapt to incorporating those healthy foods into your diet, even between some of your guilty pleasures. Opt for making use of a lot of soups. Not only is this a good way to keep warm during the winter, it’s healthy and an ideal replacement to the sugar options of hot cocoa, coffee, and other related beverages. A good savory soup made from scratch can be an ideal way to help you keep healthy throughout the winter season. Instead of putting a large amount of cream or preservatives in your body from canned soups, learning how to puree your veggies and make your own soups at home is a way to ensure that you get all of the nutrients and vitamins that were intended for your body. Don’t ignore your fruits and veggies during the winter time. A lot of people tend to forget about fruits during the winter because some of the more popular seasonal items from the winter are less common during this time. However, there are still plenty of delicious fruits that are waiting at the market and will provide you with access to a lot of your vitamins. Veggies can be incorporated into almost any lunch or dinner and also make a great snack. The key is to know how to be versatile with your meals throughout the seasons. If you feel like you’re getting sick, know what to eliminate from your diet. Stop drinking alcohol and avoid dairy as much as possible. The alcohol will run down your immune system and make it nearly impossible to prevent infection; likewise, the dairy will thicken up any mucous that may be causing congestion and help to feed the bacteria. Sugary foods are known for feeding bacteria as well. Breads can be risky during this time because many of them contain yeast which is also encouraging towards bacteria. Your doctor can provide you with a list of items to exclude from your diet during an illness.
